In Saturn’s Rings, is releasing in limited venues May 4 including the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama. It features over 7.5 million images in IMAX Digital and Native Fulldome 8K/4K formats, pushing the limits of high-resolution video. The film is narrated by LeVar Burton (Star Trek: The Next Generation, Reading Rainbow) and features original music written by Pieter Schlosser and performed by the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra.

Many of the images have not been previously released to the public and were painstakingly processed by over fifty volunteers in Adobe Photoshop, GIMP and custom Java/ImageJ programming tools. The images were collected from the Cassini-Huygens Mission to Saturn, Sloan Digital Sky Survey, Hubble Telescope Milky Way time lapses, and other sources, offering viewers an incredible journey through time and space in pictures.

While you can visit the theater to watch animated versions of space in blockbusters throughout the summer, it’s well worth your time seeking out In Saturn’s Rings for visuals every bit as stunning, and completely real. Screening locations and times, along with more information about the making of the film including an extensive assemblage of behind-the-scenes content, can be found at the film’s website.
