The fortunate thing for Tenet (unless you didn’t like the film, then I guess you could say “the unfortunate thing”) is that one viewing will not be enough to thoroughly understand or enjoy this film. Repeat viewings are mandatory.

I feel like this is Christopher Nolan‘s return to (and fine tuning of) his methods used on his film The Prestige. Yes, there are Batman IMAX flyovers. Yes, there are time/structural elements like he used in Memento. Yes, a handful of actors he utilized in Inception, back again. But these are only hints. What he does just as well as,  if not better than, the Prestige is in setting up a flawless misdirection in the setup, the way only good stories or jokes can deliver. Like a well-learned magician Nolan shows you what he wants you to see until his final set of reveals. Like a David Copperfield or an Alfred Hitchcock of the modern age.

If you’re a fan of piecing mysteries together and/or spy films that spare no expense, you will enjoy this film.

Walking out of it though, out of a movie theater for the first time in eight months…leaving the theater through doors and thresholds of my own, I couldn’t help but feel as if time were off for me as well.

Oh, and the Dune preview that preceded the movie was jaw-droppingly good. I cried watching it.
