Narcopolis seems like your average independent sci fi film.

Setting: Earth in the future.

Premise: All drugs are legal.

Conflict: Hard-boiled cop (Elliot Cowan) investigates an overdose and then falls into a downward spiral as a conspiracy becomes a reality.

It’s a world birthed from the gritty visions as seen in movies like Strange Days and Johnny Mnemonic. And while the legality of drugs seems interesting and appealing and dangerous, it is not the cornerstone of the plot as the press releases make it seem.

No, with the help of Jonathan Pryce (main character in Gilliam’s BRAZIL) you quickly come to find out that there are mysterious time travelling revolutionaries afoot, and the viewer quickly gets sucked in desperately trying to find out what’s going on along with the main character. You’ll be on the edge of your seat from the get-go.

The film is action packed, shot beautifully and offers up a satisfying ending (even if you can see it coming a mile away, you are still pleased with the end result). Recommended viewing for sci fi fans who dig glimpses of possible futures!!
