History was made in downtown Las Vegas as the “Escaramuzas Colibríes de Nevada”received a special award and the official proclamation of September 3rd as Escaramuzas Colibríes de Nevada Day. The recognition was presented at City Hall by Olivia Díaz, Las Vegas City Council woman, honoring the team’s dedication to preserving Mexican culture, tradition, and equestrian art in Nevada.
The Colibríes have become a symbol of resilience and cultural pride. Founded and led by strong women such as Yudith Pinedo, the team has carried forward the discipline of “escaramuza charra”, the only female event officially recognized in Mexican charrería. This equestrian sport combines skill, precision, and artistry, with teams of women performing synchronized maneuvers on horseback while dressed in traditional adelita attire.
“Today we honor not only their achievements in sport, but also their role as cultural ambassadors for our Hispanic and Mexican community,” said Olivia Díaz during the proclamation. “The Escaramuzas Colibríes represent courage, heritage, and the importance of passing traditions on to the next generation.”
What Is Escaramuza?
Escaramuza is an equestrian tradition deeply rooted in Mexican history. Women riders perform choreographed routines with elegance, discipline, and teamwork. Beyond competition, it is a cultural expression that highlights strength, unity, and the preservation of ancestral traditions.
